Three things from this week's reined cow horse news that I think are actually worth your attention.

First: Metallic Cat going into the NRCHA Hall of Fame with $9 million-plus in offspring earnings in that discipline alone. That's not a bloodline argument anymore — that's settled fact. If you're still debating whether to breed to a Cat son for cow horse, this number should end the conversation.

Second: Matt Koch crossing $2 million in NRCHA career earnings at the CINCH Stallion Stakes — one of only eight professionals to get there. He added $68,218 at the event, including $40,000 for a fifth in the Open Stakes finals aboard Shine Yer Sugar. Two horses — SJR Hitime Shine ($230,701) and SDP Blue Blood ($111,583) — tell you most of the story. A $2 million career gets built one good horse at a time.

Third: Ryan Gallentine and One Ata Time posted a 448.5 composite (221.5 rein work, 227 cow work) to win the first 2027 Run For A Million qualifier at the Hackamore Classic and also pushed dam Hip Hip Sue Rey past $500,000 in offspring earnings. That's a horse and a family both peaking at the right time.

If you're chasing a 2027 Run For A Million spot, five qualifier slots are still open at the NSHA Pre-Futurity in August and five more at the 2027 Kimes Ranch Derby. Plan accordingly.
